Regulatory Information

About Legalstone Legalstone is the trading name of Legalstone Limited, a company incorporated and registered in England and Wales. Company number: 17420855Registered office: 4 Old Park Lane, Mayfair, London, W1K 1QWEmail: enquiries@legalstone.co.ukTelephone: 020 7348 4848 Legalstone is an independent legal consultancy providing legal, commercial, strategic and related professional services to individuals and businesses. Legalstone provides non-reserved legal services and is not itself authorised or regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA). Many legal services are not reserved under the Legal Services Act 2007 and may lawfully be provided by organisations that are not authorised by a legal services regulator. Certain activities are reserved and may only be undertaken by appropriately authorised persons or organisations. Our legal services Legalstone provides legal and related services that fall within the scope of work it is permitted to undertake as a non-authorised organisation. Depending on the matter, our services may include legal and document review, legal research, contracts and agreements, commercial and strategic support, dispute and litigation support, matter management, transaction support, corporate services and other non-reserved legal and professional services. The nature and scope of the services provided will depend on the particular matter and will be agreed with the client as part of the engagement. Solicitors working with Legalstone Legalstone may employ or engage solicitors and other regulated legal professionals as part of its multidisciplinary model. Where a solicitor providing services through Legalstone is individually authorised and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, that solicitor remains subject to the professional and regulatory obligations applicable to them. The individual regulatory status of a solicitor does not mean that Legalstone itself is authorised or regulated by the SRA. Where relevant, we will explain the capacity in which an individual is providing services and the regulatory protections applicable to their work. Reserved legal activities Legalstone does not itself undertake reserved legal activities. Reserved legal activities under the Legal Services Act 2007 include the exercise of certain rights of audience, the conduct of litigation, reserved instrument activities, probate activities, notarial activities and the administration of oaths. Where a matter requires a reserved legal activity or another service that must be provided by an appropriately authorised professional, Legalstone may work alongside or help coordinate an authorised solicitor, barrister, law firm or other appropriately regulated professional. Where this occurs, the respective roles of Legalstone and the authorised professional, and the basis upon which their services are provided, will be explained as appropriate to the matter. Corporate and company formation services Legalstone may assist clients with company formations, corporate administration and related company secretarial and Companies House matters. Where a service requires an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), also known as a Companies House authorised agent, the relevant service may be carried out through an appropriately registered third-party ACSP. This may include, where applicable, identity verification and the submission or facilitation of information to Companies House in accordance with the requirements in force at the relevant time. Legalstone may coordinate these services as part of a wider engagement, but the role of any third-party ACSP and the basis on which it provides its services will be explained where relevant. Clients remain responsible for ensuring that information supplied in connection with company formations, filings and corporate records is complete and accurate. Working with external professionals Legalstone operates a multidisciplinary model and may work alongside external professionals where additional expertise, authorisation or specialist capability is required. Depending on the matter, this may include solicitors, barristers, authorised law firms, accountants, experts, investigators, consultants, corporate service providers and other specialist advisers. An external professional may be instructed directly by the client or involved through another appropriate arrangement. Where an external professional is separately instructed, their services will be governed by their own engagement terms and any professional or regulatory obligations applicable to them. Legalstone's involvement does not alter the independent professional responsibilities of an external adviser. Regulatory protections As Legalstone is not an SRA-authorised law firm, clients should not assume that regulatory protections applying specifically to clients of an SRA-authorised firm apply to services provided by Legalstone. Where services are provided by an individually regulated solicitor or by an external authorised or regulated professional, different regulatory obligations and protections may apply to that work. Where relevant, we will provide information about these arrangements so that clients can understand who is providing the relevant service, the capacity in which they are acting and the regulatory protections that may apply. Professional indemnity insurance Legalstone maintains professional indemnity insurance in respect of its professional services. As Legalstone is not an SRA-authorised firm, it is not subject to the SRA's compulsory professional indemnity insurance requirements and its insurance is not required to comply with the SRA's Minimum Terms and Conditions. We have nevertheless chosen to maintain professional indemnity insurance with a limit of £3 million, reflecting the level of cover required by the SRA for certain authorised incorporated firms. The scope, terms, conditions and exclusions of Legalstone's insurance are determined by its own policy and should not be assumed to be equivalent to the compulsory insurance arrangements applicable to an SRA-authorised firm. Further information about our insurance arrangements can be provided where appropriate. Professional standards Where regulated professionals work with or alongside Legalstone, they remain subject to the professional and regulatory obligations applicable to them in their individual capacity or through their authorised organisation. Legalstone expects those working on matters to act professionally, responsibly and in accordance with the standards applicable to their role. Confidentiality We recognise that the matters entrusted to us may involve confidential, commercially sensitive and personal information. We maintain appropriate practices for handling confidential information and require those working on matters to respect applicable confidentiality obligations. Further information is available in our Confidentiality Policy. Legal professional privilege Whether legal professional privilege applies depends on the circumstances, including the nature and purpose of a communication and the status and role of the persons involved. Communications with Legalstone should not automatically be assumed to attract legal professional privilege merely because they concern a legal matter or involve Legalstone. Where legal professional privilege is relevant to a matter, appropriate arrangements may be made involving an authorised legal professional where necessary. Complaints Legalstone is committed to providing a professional and responsive service. If you are dissatisfied with our service, you should raise the matter with us in the first instance so that we have an opportunity to consider and address your concerns. Complaints: complaints@legalstone.co.uk Where services have been provided by a separately authorised or regulated professional, additional complaints procedures or rights may apply to the services provided by that professional. Details will ordinarily be available from the relevant provider. Further information If you have any questions about Legalstone's regulatory status, the basis on which a particular service is being provided, or the role or regulatory status of a professional involved in your matter, please contact us before instructing us.
